Effie Crescent is the author of the modern classic The Secret Lives of Words, an exploration of how our language shapes our lives. Effie's first book, A Fortunate Life: How to Find Happiness and Inner Peace, was a finalist for the National Book Award. She is a graduate of Yale University and has been a writer, editor, and editor-at-large at the Boston Globe since 1988. Effie lives in Boston with her husband and two children.
