Edward Robert Bulwer-Lytton was an English poet and novelist. He was the first English writer to use the pen name "Lytton". He is best known for penning the opening lines of the opening chapter of what would become the most famous work in English literature, "Ralph Roister Doister", published in 1590. Bulwer-Lytton is also famous for his novel Zanoni (1842), which was adapted for film by director James Whale in 1921 as The Lost World with an all-star cast including Robert Armstrong, Boris Karloff and Lionel Barrymore.
