Edward Coke (1814-1891) was born, like many other members of his family, in St. Mary's County, Maryland. He was the youngest of ten children. His parents were William Coke and Elizabeth (Hogg) Coke; his siblings included Thomas, Benjamin, Gideon, Robert, Gideon Jr., William (c
1805-1867), Edward (c. 1815-1891), Elizabeth (b. 1817), Mary Jane (b.
1819), and John Latham (c. 1825). He married Mary Ann Walker on February 7, 1840, in St.
