Eberhard Arnold was a German World War II officer and a pioneering expert on the human brain. He developed a method of classification of mental disorders by brain function, which he called "behavioral neurology." In 1934, he founded the Psychosomatic Study Association in Berlin to promote the scientific study of the mind-brain relationship. In 1938, Arnold became director of the Psychosomatic Hospital in Homburg, where he began to study the effects of psychosurgery on patients with mental illness. On Kristallnacht, November 9–10, 1938, he was arrested and sent to Dachau concentration camp
He died in a camp hospital in February 1939 at age 67.
