In 1999 he appeared in Croupier, followed by two films with Trainspotting director Danny Boyle: Shallow Grave (1994) and A Life Less Ordinary (1997). He also appeared in the films The Hole (2001), Velvet Goldmine (1998), and Alfie (2004). In 2005 he directed Moon, which was nominated for three Oscars, including Best Original Screenplay.
