Douglas Abrams is a former President of the New York Academy of Sciences and a former president of the Society for Neuroscience. His many books include The Synaptic Self: How Our Brains Become Who We Are and The Nervous System: A Comprehensive Introduction to Neurophysiology (both from MIT Press). He also edited volumes in the Cambridge Encyclopedia of Neuroscience. Abrams has been a pioneer in the study of human brain development and has been a leader in efforts to understand how genes and experience interact in shaping brain function
He holds degrees from Princeton University and Yale University.
