Dorothy McFalls was born in New York City on January 7, 1919. She was raised by her mother, Della McFalls, after the death of her father. She attended Hunter College High School in New York City and then went on to graduate from Barnard College in New York. After graduating from Barnard College, she worked as a public relations officer for National Airlines for 12 years
She later moved to Washington D.C., where she met her husband, Benjamin C. McFalls, who worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (Fed). They married in 1945 and had two children together.
Dorothy was widowed when her husband died of lymphoma on June 30, 1996. Dorothy is editor of The Nesting Place, a study of birds' nests for children and adults; she has also written several books on American history, including Historic Houses (Little Brown) and The First Thanksgiving (Little Brown).
Either way, Grayson found it ironic how such dissimilar circumstances, colleges, and mental hospitals, had led to the same awful apartment.Dorothy McFalls
