Don Paterson is a former cop and investigator who helped to establish the ground rules for law enforcement in Canada, and who was one of the first to recognize the link between crime and addiction. He turned his passion for helping people overcome addictions into a career, founding the Addictions Research Society of Canada. He became a respected teacher and mentor to recovering addicts and alcoholics, and had over 50 books published. Don died of lung cancer on December 10, 2010.
