Dawn Powell began her writing career as a newspaper reporter for the Asheville Times before becoming a full-time writer. The author of more than thirty books, Powell began her career with "Fizzles and Flashes," published in 1946. She went on to write such classics as "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" (the basis for the Broadway musical and film), "The Emperor of Ocean Park," and "Open House." Her last book was "Love Letters from My Heart."
