David D. Allee received his B.A. from the University of Richmond in 1959, and his M.A. from the University of Washington in 1961
He has been involved in research and teaching at the University of Richmond since 1976, when he began teaching at the university's Center for Community Research. In 1977 he became a full-time faculty member in the Department of Psychology and in 1987 a tenured associate professor. He taught in the areas of human development and aging, adult learning, educational psychology, and adult education at several universities before coming to UVA in 1991 as a professor of psychology and director of the Program in Adult Development and Aging.
