Clement Clarke Moore was an American poet. He was best known for his poem A Visit from St. Nicholas, which Moore based on a story in the collection of the same name by Washington Irving. The poem has been known in many different forms and has gone through many retellings in literature and popular culture
Moore was also a banker, slave owner, philanthropist from Salem, Massachusetts, who was a founder of the Salem Institute.
