He later served as a prosecutor in the office of Brooklyn District Attorney Joe Hynes and as a judge on the New York City Criminal Court, where he presided over several high-profile cases including those involving police corruption, drugs, and murder. In 2007, Darden was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as a federal judge in California, where he presided over high-profile cases including those involving police corruption, drugs, and murder.
In 2011, Darden was appointed to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York by President Barack Obama.
