Charles W. Leadbeater was born in Manchester, England, on February 11, 1851. He was educated at the Manchester Grammar School and the Victoria University of Manchester. In 1872 he became a pupil of Dr
Weir Mitchell, who was later to establish the local section of the London Society for Psychical Research. From these years onward, Charles Leadbeater held several curacies in England before taking up residence at Glenalmond College in Scotland in 1894. During the last twenty years of his life he lived mainly at Dorking, Surrey, where he died on August 13, 1932.
He had made many publications on subjects pertaining to psychical research and other subjects bearing upon psychic phenomena, but his most important work was entitled The Science of Being Well or Mind Cure (1923).
