Charles F. Deems (1910-1994) was born in Eugene, Oregon, and graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in architecture. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and after the war he moved to Los Angeles where he began working for Walt Disney Productions. Deems' work included designing sets for horror films such as The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but his greatest contribution came with his work on the MGM musicals of the 1940s.
