In 2010 he was a candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor of New York. Paladino is an outspoken critic of taxation and has been called a "tax-evader" by critics for failing to pay his state tax bills on time. He has made a number of controversial statements including a statement that he would "punch a woman" if she got in his way during the 2009 mayoral campaign.
