Boris Vian (1923-1967) was a French poet and novelist. His poetry, which has been described as "locally obscene but internationally respected" has been published in thirteen languages. "The Ballad of the Last Don" was his most famous song. He studied law at the University of Paris (Sorbonne) and worked as a journalist, screenwriter, and playwright, but was dismissed from his government job in 1953 for writing an anti-establishment song entitled "The Fables of La Fontaine".
