Bert Leston Taylor was born in San Marcos, California, June 2, 1892. He was educated at the University of California, Riverside, where he earned a BA in 1915. During World War I he served as a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps. After completing his military service, Taylor returned to the University of California, where he earned an M.A
in 1919. He then taught for two years at the University of California, Los Angeles. Taylor became a full-time writer in the early 1920s and spent most of his life in Hollywood.
He died at age 84 on October 14, 1967.
