Bernard Law Montgomery, MBE (13 April 1887 – 3 March 1976) was a British Army officer who became a general during World War II. He took part in the Arab revolt in Mandatory Palestine, and commanded the Eighth Army during the Tunisia Campaign and the Allied invasion of Sicily. He continued as Commander-in-Chief of the British Army during the Second World War and is widely regarded as one of Great Britain's finest generals.
