Born in the Deep South, Bemy Wells became a blues singer and guitar player. Later she began writing her own material, mostly about the things that happened to her, since she was raised in the rural south. After hearing an early version of "I'm Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover" on the radio, she received a contract to record with Stinson Records. She became known as the "Queen of Blues" for her unique style
On December 8, 1948, Bemy was killed in an automobile accident, at the age of 22.
