Basil Bunting was born in the Orkney Islands, Scotland, and worked as a journalist in London and Germany. He joined the RAF as a wireless operator and was sent to the Far East during World War II. His experiences as a prisoner of war in Singapore were recorded in his book, "A Prisoner of War". After the war he moved to the UK and began writing full-time
He was awarded the OBE and knighted by Elizabeth II and is known for his novels and short stories.
