Barbara Dana was born near San Jose, Costa Rica, in 1923. Her father was an American engineer who worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. After her father's death, Dana’s mother moved the family to Los Angeles where she was raised. Dana’s first sale came in 1946 to the Ziff-Davis publishing house. Her literary career has spanned more than 60 years and has included more than 70 books.
