Babette Rothschild was born in Germany in 1902 to renowned violinist and composer Ernestine Lippmann Rothschild and her husband, Georg, a respected businessman. She immigrated to the US with her family in 1907, when she was five years old. Her early interest in nature led her to become an accomplished archaeologist and anthropologist. She went on to earn a PhD in Zoology from the University of Chicago in 1942.
