After completing her degree at Oxford University, Ava became an actress, graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. She then worked as a nanny for American families in London before moving to Los Angeles to try her luck as an actress. When she realized her acting career was not working out, Ava took a job at a start-up Internet company, where she met the founder who introduced her to his friend James Patterson.
He offered her a story-propositioning deal to write novels under the pen name Ava Gray.
