Many Sufi scholars consider him to be one of the greatest Islamic philosophers of all time. He was a friend to many people including Ibn Arabi, Rumi, Abu'l-Hasan Al-Ghazali, Junayd Baghdadi and many others. He is also considered to be a master of traditional Islamic sciences such as fiqh (jurisprudence), hadith (prophetic traditions), tasawwuf (Sufi mysticism), tariqah (Sufi order), etc.

He was known for his kindness and ability to put people at ease; he was often able to help people with their problems without them even realizing that they needed help.
