Arthur C. Danto (1924-2014) was a prolific writer, professor of philosophy at the City University of New York, and director of the Institute for Humanist Studies. His numerous books, essays, and articles have appeared in "The New York Times", "The Nation", "The Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism", "The Nation's Business", "American Heritage", "Architectural Record", "Harper's", "Artforum", and many other publications. He was also the editor of the anthology, The Death of Art: Critical Essays on Art and Aesthetics (1974).
