Born in Massachusetts, Archie Henderson studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Illinois, where he met his wife. In 1951, they moved to California, where Henderson became a cartoonist for newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times. He also drew the children's comic books The Little King and The Little Prince.
