Ang Lee was born in Taiwan in 1963. He attended Columbia University, where he received a degree in film and photography. In the 1980s, he served as a photo double for Robert De Niro in several films, including "Taxi Driver" and Martin Scorsese's "After Hours". In 1991, he directed his second feature film, "The Wedding Banquet," which brought him international acclaim. The following year, his third film, "Sense and Sensibility," received ten Academy Awards nominations and became the highest grossing Asian-American film of all time. In 1995, his fourth film, "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," became an international sensation, with its unique blend of action and romance.
In 2000, he directed his fifth film, "Brokeback Mountain," which received twelve Academy Award nominations and united him with two of the most respected mainstream directors of our time: Ang Lee and James Cameron. His next film was "Hulk." Ang Lee is truly one of the most original filmmakers of our time.
