Alphonsus de Liguori (2 September 1696 – 27 October 1787) was an Italian Roman Catholic priest and theologian who authored the first great manual on moral theology, The Moral Theology of the Jesuits. It has been influential for centuries. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XV on 14 July 1921 after the recognition of two miracles attributed to his intercession. His feast day is 30 October.
