Alice Barrett is a writer, musician, and teacher. Her short stories have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including the anthology The Best American Mystery Stories of the Century. She has published two novels, The Books of Blood (2007) and The Haunted Heart (2015), along with three books of poetry, The Blood-Dimmed Tide (1982), The Queen's Whim (1984), and The Lady's Guide to Hunting (2013). She has also published two books of essays, A Passion for Observation: Reflections on Shame, Guilt, and Discovery (2010), and A Desperate Angel: Essays on Identity in America Today (2014)
Her poetry has been widely anthologized in poetry collections. Her solo album Angels Don't Cry was released in 2011 by Folklore Records.
