Alain Robbe-Grillet is a French author, who wrote in a style that has been called "Robbe-Grilletian" or "New Novel." He was a generation older than Jean Paul Sartre, and his work was more literary in nature. He is best known for his novels, Les Bonnes Âmes (1947), Le Voyeur (1954), and La Galère (1961). All of these novels are characterized by a minimalistic style and a detached attitude toward narrative. His writing also influenced the young James Dean.
