Ludwig Wittgenstein is a great example of a philosopher who was ahead of his time, and his work is still relevant today. His ideas have been adopted by some of the most influential thinkers, including Stephen Hawking and Noam Chomsky, who have said that Wittgenstein’s philosophy is one of the most important advances in modern thinking. In his book Philosophical Investigations, Wittgenstein writes about an “elementary form of life” which is “the totality of those objects that are always accompanied by expressions that denote them.” This enabled him to distinguish between what he called “language games”. Language games are how we use words to express our thoughts and feelings about things.
