8 Quotes About Flat Earth

The earth is much smaller than the sun, the moon, and the stars. The earth is flat. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The world is really round Read more

Flat-Earthers piece together conspiracy theories, use Bible verses to prove their point, and deny science. However, there are some people who actually believe that the earth is flat. These people are called flat-Earthers.

There are many theories about why people believe in a flat-Earth. Some people say that they believe in a flat-Earth because it fits with their religious beliefs. Others say they believe in a flat-Earth because it matches how they think or feel about themselves.

Others believe that if you learn about a flat-Earth then you will have to admit that you are wrong about everything else you have ever believed. If you think about what it would take to be wrong about everything else you have ever believed then you would have to admit that you are wrong about yourself as well. You wouldn’t be able to be wrong about yourself so therefore you couldn’t be wrong about everything else you have ever believed.

If you learned about a flat-Earth then it would be easier for you to admit that you were wrong about everything else so why wouldn’t it be easier for you to admit that you were wrong about yourself?

The media are desperately afraid of being accused of bias. And that's partly because there's a whole machine out there, an organized attempt to accuse them of bias whenever they say anything that the Right doesn't like. So rather than really try to report things objectively, they settle for being even-handed, which is not the same thing. One of my lines in a column–in which a number of people thought I was insulting them personally–was that if Bush said the Earth was flat, the mainstream media would have stories with the headline: 'Shape of Earth–Views Differ.' Then they'd quote some Democrats saying that it was round. . Paul Krugman

The young specialist in English Lit, having quoted me, went on to lecture me severely on the fact that in every century people have thought they understood the Universe at last, and in every century they were proved to be wrong. It follows that the one thing we can say about our modern 'knowledge' is that it is wrong. The young man then quoted with approval what Socrates had said on learning that the Delphic oracle had proclaimed him the wisest man in Greece. 'If I am the wisest man, ' said Socrates, 'it is because I alone know that I know nothing.' The implication was that I was very foolish because I was under the impression I knew a great deal. Alas, none of this was new to me. (There is very little that is new to me; I wish my correspondents would realize this.) This particular theme was addressed to me a quarter of a century ago by John Campbell, who specialized in irritating me. He also told me that all theories are proven wrong in time. My answer to him was, 'John, when people thought the Earth was flat, they were wrong. When people thought the Earth was spherical, they were wrong. But if you think that thinking the Earth is spherical is just as wrong as thinking the Earth is flat, then your view is wronger than both of them put together. . Isaac Asimov

If we presume that the boundary of the universe is a kind of surrounding wall, then we think like ancestors who thought there's abyss at the edge of flat earth. Toba Beta
