A book can be both a blessing and a curse. While the idea of books being dangerous is pretty much universal, I think it’s fair to say that reading is probably the most dangerous thing we do as humans. At one time, books could kill you – literally – by way of poisoning. Ancient Egypt was a book-loving society and people would often take their own lives by ingesting poisonous hatchets and daggers that had been disguised as writings.

However, today, we rarely worry about the health risks that come with reading. Still, there is no denying that books can kill you. That’s something to keep in mind as you pick up those first few pages.
