The true purpose of illustrated journaling [is] to celebrate your life. No matter how small or mundane or redundant, each drawing and little essay you write to commemorate an event or an object or a place makes it all the more special.

About This Quote

I believe that illustrated journals (also known as sketch books) are actually a form of art. When you look at the pictures and read the words, you can really get a sense of how this person feels about something. For example, when you look at an illustration of a flower in the snow and read the caption and the little poem, you really get a sense of how much this person loves flowers in the snow. You see how they feel when they look at beautiful things and write little poems to describe them. That’s when you realize that even though these illustrations aren’t famous or very impressive-looking, they still add to the joy of life.
