As I said before, I took to miniature painting without a completely whole heart, on the advice of my elders and betters. Generally speaking, I do not think that one should ever take another person's advice in the things of life that really matter, but follow the dictates of the still small something in one's innermost self. But 'they' advised, and I bowed to the advice; and in this particular instance it was a good thing I did, because the advice turned out to be so resoundingly wrong that it turned me into another direction altogether. If I had gone on working in oils I might very well have been a dedicated but unsuccessful painter to this day. . Rosemary Sutcliff
About This Quote

A miniature painter is an artist who paints small, intricate works of art. Miniature painting is a very specialized and difficult technique that requires patience and careful planning. A person who does this type of art is usually already very skilled in the techniques necessary to create such pieces. In this quote, the artist suggests that he took miniaturist painting advice from an older generation and instead, has moved on with his life and found a new direction with his art.

What he did next with his life was far different than what the older generation thought he would. If he had not listened to their advice and continued to paint large-scale oil paintings, he might have been painting the same works today.
