You don’t have to be a writer or a painter to appreciate the writing or artwork you see in books and magazines, but you can’t really be a good writer if you don’t understand the meaning behind the words and pictures. The same applies for art in general. When people say they “like” an artistic work, they are not necessarily saying they wouldn’t like to do it themselves.
They just see something in the work that they enjoy and so they enjoy it for its own sake independent of whether or not they would actually be able to produce it themselves.
