While looking at the two, it doesn’t take long to realize that one person is better than the other, just in terms of their attributes and capabilities. When we choose one over the other, we’re making a decision based on how we feel about that person and what we think they can do for us. For example: Let’s say I’ve been single for a while and am ready to start dating again.

Within my circle of friends, there are two people who constantly come up in conversations about dating: Juan and Jorge. Juan is tall and handsome, Jorge is short and cute. Juan makes more money than Jorge, so he would be perceived as the better catch by most people in my circle of friends.

If I only spend time with Juan socially and don’t bother trying to date him or spend any time with him outside of work, who would be the better partner in the long run? The answer is Jorge, because he would make me happier in our relationship (and probably elsewhere), even though he isn’t as good looking as Juan.
