Shane lingered over a sickly sweet bit of doggerel comparing accepting Christ into one’s life with turning a pumpkin into a Jack-o-Lantern. “It sounds like God is seriously going to mutilate you.” Roselyn took the pamphlet from Shane, her eyes flickering over the text. “I always pictured it a bit more like a lobotomy than an evisceration. About This Quote

When Roselyn initially reads the poem that Shane had found in the P&S, she is horrified at the idea that God was going to mutilate people. The image of cutting out parts of your body is one that immediately comes to mind when people hear this verse. However, there is another aspect to this verse that may be overlooked. It is not always about physical mutilation, but spiritual mutilation as well.

It requires a removal of something in your heart or in your soul. When you are spiritually dead, you cannot move forward in life. You will remain stagnant where you are and never progress further in life.

This passage is an encouragement to go forth and accept Christ into one’s life, for it is only through Him that we can truly become whole again.
