I was never weighed down by beauty in my lifetime. However, I was beaten down by the sad fears of my gender- women who didn't allow you to feel pretty or rejoice in who you are, unless it fell beneath how they thought about themselves.

About This Quote

When the times were at their darkest, during my twenties, I remember cursing my life away in a haze of drunken fatigue. I spent most of my time at the local bar, where all the men were sad and pathetic. They didn't understand my pain or why I believed that girls weren't allowed to be attractive without falling into the societal mold of beautylessness. A few mumbled their way through an apology for women not being the way they thought they should be.

Some swore that things were better before they started dating me. Others mumbled about how I had to "get over" it if I wanted to get back out there and date more than one or two people at a time. However, once the bar closed its doors at three AM, I'd leave and walk home in silence so that I could think about what I had just heard. And, once the sun rose on another day, I would sit down on my bed and think about that night's conversations with the men who had disappointed me.

My thoughts would then shift to all of the women who had done more for me than any man ever had; who had picked me up when I was broken; who had accepted me for who I was; and who loved me more than any man ever did. To this day, some men still don't understand why it makes sense for a woman to make herself appealing while others persist in thinking women only want men if they look like sex-bots. To them, their own fathers are proof that this is not true; however, these men have not been around long enough to know how things have changed since their fathers walked around in diapers.
