This quote is attributed to Maurice Strong, who was the first secretary-general of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP). Strong was born in Canada and served as director of Earth Sciences at Harvard University.
He was also an advisor to the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment (Stockholm) before becoming secretary-general of UNEP. He died in 2004.
