There were times he thought he might not want to live the life he saw before him. It was a life of obstacles and hardships–challenges and tests of will he could not yet predict. But he couldn’t stop. He had to endure. The path had not changed. It was he who had changed. Matt K. Turner
About This Quote

When Acala was a child, he endured torture at the hands of the Khmer Rouge. He was imprisoned for three years before being captured by Vietnamese soldiers and imprisoned for another 7 years. After the war ended, he married and eventually settled down in America along with his wife. Once they were together, they experienced great happiness.

They had a happy family life and a successful career. However, all of that changed when his wife became ill. She passed away and Acala stopped going to work, stopped going outside, stopped doing anything at all.

Eventually, he stopped eating and stopped talking with anyone. He had lost his will to live. He had fallen from his stairs of enlightenment and it took time for him to recover from this loss.
