About This Quote

Elias’s wife, his “lousy wife,” has been his constant frustration for years. She is selfish and bad tempered, and even when he is in the mood for lovemaking he is always afraid that she will discover his secret. His story is told by Richard Yates in his novel, Revolutionary Road. A lot of things have changed since 1929, but not many people are happy with their spouses. Some people are happy with their spouses, but when they leave them they sometimes see the light at the end of the tunnel.
