Political revolutions never liberate anyone

About This Quote

Political revolutions never liberate anyone. One of the key points of the French Revolution was that people should be equal. When the revolution took place, people were stripped of their titles and all their possessions were confiscated. The French government was still called the kingdom of France, but it was no longer a monarchy.

There was no king anymore to tell them what to do. The idea was that they, the people, would be in charge, not some distant ruler. However, very quickly after this change, there was a backlash against democracy.

The government started taking away more and more freedoms from the people so that they could remain in power. Eventually, all basic freedoms were taken away until there was no one left who could oppose the government’s will. This is why political revolutions are not very successful at liberating anyone.
