Last week, I suggested the candidates take up mushrooms. I’ll be damned if Rick Perry didn’t take me up on that.

About This Quote

There are several things that Rick Perry can be called. Some people call him the "oops" candidate, but I prefer to say he's the "oops" candidate. Why? Because, in his lifetime, Perry has made some pretty gaffes. He was the Governor of Texas when he said he wanted to abolish the Department of Energy.

He was running for president when he said he would not debate President Obama if Obama won re-election because he believed that it would be against his Christian beliefs. When people pointed out that debating the president would be extremely important for Perry if he were elected, Perry replied that it wouldn't matter because, as businessman, he wouldn't have any problem running a business with no government regulations or taxes. He also said that no one had ever become poor by being successful, which is patently false. Now, however, Perry's most recent gaffe has taken top billing.

Last week, Perry accepted an invitation to take some psilocybin mushrooms at a Texas ranch owned by a supporter who is also an Oklahoma City-based plastic surgeon. The trip was arranged by Dr. Jack Herer, who has previously advised Bill Maher on drug policy and Rick Santorum on government spending cuts (he is on the advisory board for Santorum's campaign).

The trip took place last Friday and on Saturday evening Perry tweeted about it: "Glad I went to Texas! Great experience! Thank you @DrJackHerer." Further Reading
