If there is anything to learn from the rise of fascism in the late 1920s and early 1930s, it’s that democracy – and its children – can be a terrible thing. The belief that we should all be “equal” and that we all deserve the same opportunities and rewards can lead to a rejection of tradition and a desire to create something different. There is nothing wrong with this desire. There is nothing wrong with making changes.
But change for change’s sake only leads to failure. This is not to say that people shouldn’t ever try new things or even change things around once in a while, but such changes should only be considered as a last resort when attempts at compromise or negotiation have failed.
