About This Quote

I like to have a martini,Two at the very most. After three I'm under the table, after four I'm under my host. In the late 1930s, American film director Frank Capra created a series of classic films that were both well-liked and lucrative. In one of those films, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington , there is a scene in which a group of people are drinking alcohol together after a long day's work.

At this party, one man makes a rather strange statement: “I like to have a martini, two at the very most. After three I'm under the table, after four I'm under my host.” This quote reverses the traditional order of things; instead of saying that you should be “under your host” after having too much to drink, it tells you that you should stop drinking AFTER you've had three or more drinks (at least) and you start to feel yourself sinking into the depths of drunkenness.
