We need to reclaim the word 'feminism'. We need the word 'feminism' back real bad. When statistics come in saying that only 29% of American women would describe themselves as feminist - and only 42% of British women - I used to think, What do you think feminism IS, ladies? What part of 'liberation for women' is not for you? Is it freedom to vote? The right not to be owned by the man you marry? The campaign for equal pay? 'Vogue' by Madonna? Jeans? Did all that good shit GET ON YOUR NERVES? Or were you just DRUNK AT THE TIME OF THE SURVEY? . Caitlin Moran
About This Quote

I feel that this quote is a sad one. The world has become a much smaller place in the last century, making it easier to get to know people from all around the world. In the past, there were strict taboos on certain topics and lifestyles. But now, thanks to television and the internet, we can be exposed to so many different cultures and lifestyles.

We have even grown used to seeing homosexuals in our society, not just in films but in real life too. However, I feel that we have lost a lot of our own culture in this process. For example, I remember watching television as a child where it was accepted that women were good only for cooking and cleaning. They weren't allowed to do anything else or be independent in their lives.

So when I heard someone say that feminism is not for them because they believe that women should only focus on their 'feminine side', this made me feel sad. Also, I feel it is important to mention that this situation does not only apply to western countries. In contrast, when a feminist in a country like Saudi Arabia says she doesn't believe in feminism, because she feels that women should only focus on their 'feminine side', she is actually saying that she believes women are not allowed to do anything else or be independent in their lives. This is what feminism stands for - equality between men and women - but some people still disagree with it because they think it is against the idea of being feminine or traditional.
