About This Quote

The people of New Orleans are one of the most resilient groups of people I have ever met. When Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, the city was in shambles. The city was filled with broken homes, flooded streets, and desperate people. Those who were displaced were whisked away to the Superdome where they were forced to live without electricity or their own home.

However, this catastrophe did not stop the city from coming back to life. One of the most inspiring stories I heard during my time in New Orleans was that of Judy Deck. She was at one point homeless and living on the streets outside New Orleans when she got a call from her daughter saying that her home had caught on fire.

She knew because she had struggled with drug addiction and had lost everything she owned. Not only did she find the strength to fight through her struggles again, but she also found the strength to rebuild her life. Ms.

Deck has since become an advocate for other victims of Hurricane Katrina and has helped them get back on their feet through various charities she has set up around New Orleans to help others rebuild their lives after Hurricane Katrina hit the city in 2005
