About This Quote
The World War I was one of the most devastating wars of all time involving countries all over the world. The loss of life was enormous, but the effects of the war extended beyond death. One of these effects was the rise of women’s rights, which happened because of World War I. For centuries women had been treated as second-class citizens.
They were not allowed to vote or hold property. Women were also considered to be less “masculine” than men, and their femininity was seen as a hindrance to their ability to take on manly roles. The war changed all that.
After seeing so many young men die in combat, many European countries began to grant women the right to vote and hold property. This new respect for women led to a new kind of equality between the genders.
