About This Quote

“Best to live and love by the maxim that 'silence in the face of evil is evil itself', but when it's evil fighting evil, let evil kill itself” is a quote from a speech given by Nelson Mandela, the leader of the African National Congress, on January 23, 1960. In his speech, Mr. Mandela called for an end to white-on-black violence, which was at the time taking place in South Africa. Although he specifically addressed the situation of whites killing blacks, this quote has come to be associated with all forms of violence and even hate speech.

When we allow people to spew hate and violence freely against others, we are allowing them to kill themselves. It is our duty as civilized people to stand up and stop these acts before they take place.
